City and Guilds Level 3 Certificate in Community Safety

Walsall College is a key partner in the EUGANGS project. EUGANGS brings together professionals from the UK, Italy, Greece, Cyprus and Romania to research, develop and accredit a new vocational and professional qualification. Prior to the EUGANGS project, no single programme provided the specific knowledge and skills required for workers to deal with gangs and resulting criminality. EUGANGS closes that gap for those working and living with young people engaged in a  gang lifestyle. The programme covers:

  •  Interpersonal communication
  •  Safe working
  •  Policy
  •  Social psychology
  •  Social factors

Preliminary research with community and agency partners in Walsall and the Black Country grounds the course in issues relevant to our local contexts. view research report

The Train the Trainer programme has ensured the course is delivered by tutors experienced in youth work, local projects and working with gangs. view train the trainer report

We are now piloting the EUGANGS course, which leads to the City and Guilds Level 3 Certificate in Community Safety, and it is proving a hit with communities and professionals alike as it helps people make connections between their experiences and overarching theory, and with each other:

  • ‘There were sessions that opened my eyes … particularly to the science behind how people think and how this plays a part in the gangs problem. I’m quite experienced and yet found this aspect enlightening.’
  • ‘I have gained knowledge from the course and also the beneficial experiences of colleagues’
